Shippy Connect: Your Printer and Scale, Working Together
By Alexa Fangman
In this article:
Download the label. Choose a printer. Open the preview. Print. Read the scale, return to the shipment, and type the weight by hand. None of those tasks takes long on its own. Repeat them across a busy packing queue, and your team spends time managing labels instead of moving packages.
You still need the label and the right weight. You don't need the repeated file handling and manual entry between them. Shippy Connect brings your printer and scale into the shipping process you already manage with Shippy by Dijy, the native HubSpot shipping label app.
Connect Your Shipping Workstation with Shippy Connect
Shippy Connect connects your local printers and scale to Shippy through a desktop extension. It's available on the Power Shipper and Mega Shipper plans, giving busy shipping teams a more direct way to print documents and capture package weights.
A connected workstation starts with a computer running Shippy Connect alongside your work in HubSpot. Your printer handles the physical documents, and your scale supplies the parcel's weight. An optional barcode scanner adds another way to bring shipment information into Shippy.
Each part has a clear job. The computer connects the process, the printer produces your labels or packing slips, and the scale removes the need to copy a number from one display to another. Your team keeps its attention on the parcel in front of them.
Send Labels and Packing Slips to the Right Printers
Shippy Connect lets you choose one default printer so print jobs go to that device without repeated printer selection. Instead of downloading a label and working through the same printing routine again, you send the job through your connected setup.
Use two printers at your packing station? You can split the defaults by document type. Assign a thermal printer to labels and another printer to packing slips. Shippy then sends each type of document to its designated default.
That separation keeps the choice out of your team's way. They don't have to stop and remember which printer should receive which document each time. Labels belong at the label printer, and packing slips belong at the printer you've assigned to them.
For operations leads, the benefit is a repeatable routine. Your team can move from one package to the next with fewer printing decisions, rather than treating every label and packing slip as a new file-handling task.
Capture Package Weight Without Typing It
Shippy Connect fills the Weight field with the measurement from your connected scale. Place the packed parcel on the scale, let the reading settle, and Shippy receives the weight without anyone copying it by hand.
There's one important detail: your cursor must be active in the Weight field. The field needs to be ready to receive the scale's input. If your cursor is somewhere else, don't expect the weight to appear in the shipment.
This works when you're creating a shipment through Shippy and when you're working with Barcode Import. Your team can use the same weighing habit in either process: focus the Weight field, weigh the parcel, and check the value before continuing.
Accurate weights also help avoid carrier adjustment fees. A mistyped or estimated weight can leave a mismatch between your shipment details and the carrier's measurement. Capturing the measured weight removes that manual copying step, while your final review keeps the shipment details in check.
Turn Packing Slip Barcodes into Shipment Drafts
Barcode Import, currently in beta, pre-fills shipment details from a packing slip barcode and saves the shipment as a draft. Pair it with Shippy Connect to reduce the typing between picking up a packed order and preparing its label.
The packing slip needs a barcode that includes shipping data. With the Barcode Scanner Input field active, one scan brings the sender address, recipient address, and package details into Shippy. Your team doesn't have to enter that information again.
The draft gives you a place to review the imported details before completing the shipment. Scanning creates the draft, not a finished shipment or a purchased label. That distinction keeps a useful review point in your packing process.
Then bring in the scale. Move your cursor to the Weight field and place the parcel on it. The barcode supplies the shipment information, and the scale supplies the measured weight. Your team reviews the details and continues with the shipment.
Keep Your Shipping Team Connected on Mac and Windows
Shippy Connect works on Mac and Windows, so your packing station can use either operating system. The extension runs on the computer that connects your local hardware to Shippy.
The Shippy Connect login is shared across your HubSpot account. It isn't a separate set of credentials for every team member. Keep that account-level access in mind as you coordinate your shipping team's setup.

Put Shippy Connect to Work at Your Packing Station
Give your team fewer steps between a packed parcel and its shipping label. With Shippy Connect, printer defaults handle the destination, a connected scale handles weight entry, and optional barcode scanning brings shipment details into a draft.
